Wrightsville Beach NC Great Trout Bite!!!!

dscn0855.JPG

Hello to all, I hope everyone is doing well! The weather around here will not make its mind up on summer, fall, or winter. The problem with that is the fish can’t make up their mind up either. I have got to say I have enjoyed the 70` days mixed in! Today winter was on its way in, and the Winter Trout bite was on!!

We started out this morning around 7:00am it was cold and just enough wind to keep you that way. I had two on board today for a charter, they knew how to fish “this is good”. Started fishing around the Masonboro jetties, the first hour was a little slow. Around 8:00 or so the Trout turned on, it was a fish about every cast for two hours. We ended up catching forty-four Trout, we kept twenty-nine.

The average size was three pounds, and had three fish over four pounds. This brings the boat total to ten Trout over four pounds this year one more than last year and the big fish are getting here now! We let go many fish over three pounds that is a great feeling to let go a fish that big over and over again.

The Trout mostly hit live shrimp, but I did get some nice ones on Saltwater Assassin sea shads in colors chart diamond with a red head jig. For the shrimp, float rigs with number six treble hooks. Rod and Reels used today, Reel Pflueger Infusion 7635ss, Rod Ugly Stick Lite 7’0 med action. Line 15 pound Ugly Braid.

Thanks for reading this report; let’s go get your big Trout! Captain Jot Owens
