6/4/08 Charlie's Charters Fishing Report

Despite the weather, the weekend ended nice.  You would have thought gas was a dollar a gallon, anyway on with our local fishing report.  The river is still holding some nice speckled trout, choice of baits has been live shrimp & artificial DOA shrimp in green, white and new penny.

The flounder bite is starting to take off with some nice catches anywhere from 2 lbs to 8 lbs.  Live bait is best choice pogies, mud-minnows and cut bait on Carolina rigs.  Remember when fishing with live bait be patient let him eat it.

The red drum have been holding around the ICW docks and the rock wall jetties down at Fort Fisher.

Near shore, the Spanish have been on fire from Carolina Beach to Wrightsville Beach down to Shell Island, anywhere from 17 to 30 feet of water.  Trolled Clark spoons on #1 planners will work for these guys.  If you see the Spanish jumping break out that sight casting rod and Mira Jigs and have some fun.

Near by reefs are holding some nice flounder and sea-bass.  Even a few small cobia caught over the weekend, with a few sharks anywhere from 3 to 4 feet long.
