Fishing Report 7-31-2010

Had a full day live bait trip with Carl and Rachel King in town from Greensboro, NC. As usual the weatherman was wrong and we had a hard east wind and swell on the ride out. Started at 18 miles trying for some AJs on live bait. Rachel made short work of a nice 30 lb AJ before the dive boats showed up and ran us off. Did some slow trolling around the 20 miles ledges and everyone was complaining about the slow fishing. Moved out to 25 miles and had a double headers on 20 lb tackle. Carl’s fish was large and went right for the wreck. Rachel fought her fish all the way to the boat before a 7 foot shark turned it into lunch. Moved out to the 30 mile range looking for some grouper but the fish had other ideas. Had a couple short groupers and other bottom fish. Not a single hit on the light lines with fresh live sardines. One of those days thanks to the east winds.
