Whale of a good morning sight casting, even got a citation spanish

Left out of an angry CB inlet this morning and first thing we saw was a humpack (I think) whale spouting water and cruising north. We headed down the beach a bit and man it was ON! We spent a solid 2 hours sight casting to schools of big Spanish mackerel, bluefish and false albies. One of the spanish was 27.5″ and weighed in at 6 pounds earning one of my clients a citation. The bite slowed around 9:30 so we went to some bottom structure nearby and got several more bluefish and some decent sized grey trout jigging. These guys are hardcore shark fishermen that like to go after big sharks from the beach, so they ended up with a good stock of fresh bait and some fresh fish for dinner as well. The water temp was just over 68 degrees this morning and once again the Big Nic Spanish Candy jigs were the ticket. It looks like spring fishing is going wide open right now!
