100 Spanish Mackerels In An Hour And A Half

Our charter fishing trips out of Wrightsville and Carolina Beach have been doing awesome! We have had a excellent Spanish Mackerel bite and it will be here for a good while! Two of our trips caught over 40 in one hours time, one trip caught over 100 in a hour and a half, and we have had many 20 fish trips before heading off to catch something else! The glass minnow bait balls are huge and the Spanish are feeding throughout the entire water column and on the surface. We have been doubling and tripling up on each pass trolling and casting jigs into the jumping schools. Try early morning for best results! After we have caught a mess of Spanish we have been targeting and catching the large sharks right off the beach. These have been 40 – 60 lb sharks and are a blast to catch on light tackle. Try a large piece of a cut Spanish mackerel Inshore: The flounder and redfish are biting well on the falling tide. Try creek mouths near deep water and shallow bays near deeper (cooler) water. The reds are targeting the finger mullet right now so if you can find a combination of finger mullet and one of the items above you should hang into Mr. Redfish. The Berkley Gulp! products have taken over in the place of live bait and our hookup ratios have improved drastically because you don’t have to wait to set the hook! Offshore: The Kings are moving in closer and a few have been caught right off the beach. The Mahi are around the 10-15 mile range and the cobia are still hanging around. The live bait (turbo menhaden) is available in the ICW, Cape Fear River near sunny point, and Banks channel. If you would like to experience this excellent Spanish mackerel bite, tug on some sharks and beat the summer heat….I have Sunday morning available from 6:30 to 10:30 leaving from either Carolina or Wrightsville Beach.
