Our fishing charter trips out of Wrightsville Beach have been doing well and we have been catching everything from upper slot red drum, HUGE amberjacks, mahi, black drum, bluefish, and spanish and king mackerel to name a few. The weather has been fantastic and the fishing has been great right along with it. INSHORE: The redfish and flounder are biting well on Berkley Gulp jerkbaits and the 3 inch shrimp. I like the white or new penny colors for clear water and the rootbeer for the darker water. The speckled trout action has also been steady, try a jerk bait or a popping cork with a gulp shrimp under it for best results. OFFSHORE: The offshore action has been on fire lately. The king mackerel are doing awesome but we have not ran into any large ones yet. Speaking of large…..we boated a huge 72 pound amberjack last week on a 3 pound bluefish and broke off 3 more that were probably close to 100 pounds that we could not stop! Check below for the new amberjack video to see the 72 pounder being caught by my customers. The mahi action is also doing well. On the same trip when the 72 pound AJ was caught I also free gaffed a 15 pound mahi that would not eat anything but live UN-HOOKED menhaden. Well needless to say he got too close to the boat and ended up in the cooler. The Spanish are still biting well on the beach and we are getting most of them sight casting to the schools.
