Wrightsville Beach Fishing Report 4-23-09

Spring is here and the fish are chewing! The bluefish are biting anything that moves and limiting out has been no problem. They are lots of fun on light tackle. The spanish mackerel are moving in and the spanish fishing is continuing to improve each day. We will soon have loads of spanish to troll and sight cast for with light tackle spinning gear and 6 wt fly rods. The king mackerel bite is also improving in the 5 to 15 mile range and it looks like we may get a early start on them this year.

Inshore the black drum are biting well around the docks on fresh shrimp fished on a carolina rig. The red drum bite is becoming more consistent. We have had good success on the flats on low wind days chasing the schools. The drum have been caught on Berkley Gulp! jarkbaits and clouser minnows.

This is shaping up to be another great year. Our charters are catching lots of fish and it should only get better! Now is the time to book your trip and come fishing! Hope to see you soon!
