Hi Folks,
Will the wind ever cease? I’m not sure this year. Luckily I was guiding on a nice 28 footer this weekend and even better the fish were biting. We enjoyed a double digit Spanish mackerel bite and added a couple of fighting false albacore. Seas were running 3-5 feet and the wind started at 10+ and kept building to over 20. A ruff and rewarding day. Water temps are in the mid 60’s. Forecast for the next couple of days call for rain and wind. Tough spring so far. Now here’s my report:
INSHORE: I am getting some reports of black drum and reds being caught. Some flounder are biting as well; small with a few keepers mixed in from time to time.
NEAR SHORE: The Spanish mackerel and the bluefish have started biting well from the beach out to 40′. Trolled Clarkspoons and deep divers have been producing fish. A few baby kings have been caught ( have to throw them back).
OFFSHORE and GULFSTREAM: No reports due to winds.
CAPE FEAR RIVER: Trout, reds, a few flounder and whiting on the south end of the river.
UPCOMING: Hopefully the winds will abate soon. The bigger keeper flounder should be arriving soon. King mackerel in the 10-25 mile areas also should be biting soon. Look for cobia to be prowling the near shore reefs and inlets.
