3 Citations In One Week!

The fishing continues to be great. In fact it has been so great I have gotten behind on my reports and this report will cover the last two weeks. Offshore: The Cobia and Amberjack fishing has made up for the poor showing of King Mackerel. We have mainly been fishing in the 20 mile range and the Cobia and AJ’s have been holding tight to the AR structures and buoys. After being broke off 8 times by big AJ’s on king tackle we finally boated a nice 30 lb juvenile AJ that gave us a run for our money! The next day the cobia decided to play with our king tackle! We had a nice 30lb cobia to the boat, so we thought, and it dove to the wreck and broke my customer off with ease! The next Cobia came up in the prop wash and it was HUGE! I reeled in the double pogy rig and it was quickly inhaled. As soon as it felt the hooks it almost spooled us! We got back on it only to be wrapped around the buoy! Oh well…I am now building some 50lb class Next Level customs to fix this problem! After my Cobia run in we set the lines back out and my customer came up with a MONSTER 6.5. lb Spanish that went 28 inches long! NC Citation! Speaking of Citations… We also live released a AJ for another NC Citation and boated a 23 lb Cuda for yet another NC Citation. 3 Citations in one week! Awesome. The kings and mahi are doing well in the 30 mile range. The African Pompano are at WR-4 and the Tower. We also got into a nice Spanish feeding frenzy about two miles off of the beach. We had non stop action for about 2 hours sight casting with mariah jigs to the Spanish. The Spanish are there you just have to look for them! There were acres of them! Inshore: Capt. Trevor and I are still doing well with the Redfish and Flounder. The Reds are holding tight to the docks and are producing well in the ICW. The early morning bite seems to be best before the water temps get too hot. Berkley Gulp! and live bait are producing the best results. The Flounder love the 3? white or glow Gulp! shrimp and are staging up near the creek mouths on a falling tide.
