Hi Folks, Spring has sprung and so has the fishing. Inshore fishing has and is picking up with some nice black drum, red drum and a few trout. Fishing is actually getting better and better day by day. It’s interesting to watch and be in it when it is happening.
Now here’s my report:
Inshore: Water temps have gone above 60 and the fish have responded. Black drum are biting well on fresh shrimp, reds are too. You can also catch the reds on artificials; top water in the early mornings and plastics the rest of the day. Falling tide is best.
Near Shore: Water temps are right at 60. Nice sea bass and porgy are being caught close in and the blues and bonito are bound to be close. I did not fish today or yesterday, so they may actually be biting now.
Offshore: False albacore are to be found from 10 to 18 miles out and will bite your favorite jig. I’ll be trying a new jig soon and will give you more on that later. It may be one of the best and least expensive available! More later. Kings are still a ways out, 30 miles or so, but they are moving closer.
Gulfstream: Tuna and wahoo are biting well. Should be nearing the peak of the yellowfin bite.
UpComing: Look for flounder to start making their appearance first at the near shore reefs and then the inlets. While the reds are bit on the small side right now and fun on lite tackle, the bigger fish should be showing up very soon. By late April, the spanish will invade our beaches…
